Purcellville police to host meeting on online safety

In recognition of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, the Purcellville Police Department will host a town hall meeting on how to keep children safe online.

The forum will be Oct. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Purcellville Town Hall, 221 S. Nursery Ave.

The session is intended to provide parents with an understanding of online threats and to discuss tools that are available to protect children. It will be facilitated by Matt Foosaner, who has more than 20 years of experience designing technologies for government agencies. Foosaner has been a member of the law enforcement committee of the board of directors for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Art submissions sought for W&OD Trail exhibit and sale

The Franklin Park Arts Center is accepting entries of original works from regional artists and craftspeople for a Washington & Old Dominion Trail exhibition and sale.

The art show will celebrate the beauty and history of the trail, a 50-mile linear park managed by the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority. It begins in Loudoun County and ends in Alexandria.

The exhibition will include works in all media and will feature historical pieces from the park authority archive.

Artwork can be dropped off at the Franklin Park Arts Center on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a $20 entry fee.

The exhibition will be on view at the Franklin Park Arts Center, 36441 Blueridge View Lane, Purcellville, from Nov. 4 through Dec. 4, weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will then be moved to locations along the W&OD Trail. The public is invited to an opening reception on Nov. 18 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Fauquier to honor veterans with library photo collage

Throughout this month, Fauquier County Public Library will accept photos of veterans for its annual “Honoring Our Veterans” display, which runs Nov. 1 to 26.

The photos will form a collage to be displayed at three library locations. Each photo will be accompanied by a caption identifying the veteran, the year and location of the photo, if available, and the relationship and name of the person who submitted it. Photos used in previous displays will automatically be included.

To submit a photo, take a scanned copy to any Fauquier library branch. Library staff members are available to help scan original photos. County library locations are: Warrenton Library, 11 Winchester St.; Bealeton Library, 10877 Willow Dr.; and John Marshall Library, 4133 Rectortown Rd., Marshall.
